Caitlin Clark’s brother appeared to hit out at the WNBA referees following an important win over the Connecticut Sun on July 15, which came at a cost as the Indiana Fever’s star guard limped off the court injured once again.
Tuesday night’s meeting saw Indiana land a crucial 85-77 victory but the same ailment that previously sidelined their talented 23-year-old for multiple games earlier in the season appeared to rear its head once again.
With less than a minute remaining in the fourth quarter, Clark had to be withdrawn through injury and now that leaves both her All-Star Weekend availability but could severely impact Indiana’s playoff aspirations.
Clearly in pain, was seen wincing and walking gingerly after making a pass to Kelsey Mitchell before she rested her head on the basket stanchion, shortly later heading to the bench.
She remained there, covering her face with a towel as she tried to fight back tears. Following the injury, Clark’s brother, Colin, expressed frustration with WNBA officiating in a since-deleted post on X.com (formerly Twitter).
“Make no mistake, this is on the reffing,” Colin wrote. While officials did not directly cause the injury, the criticism appears to be aimed at what many perceive as a pattern of overly physical defense directed at Caitlin Clark, which some feel has gone unchecked throughout the season.
Will Caitlin Clark play vs New York Liberty? Fever reveal answer
Clark’s latest setback is the third lower-body injury she’s sustained in the 2025 season as the talented playmaker has already missed nine regular-season games and was unavailable for Indiana’s historic WNBA Commissioner’s Cup final due to two separate injuries in her left leg.
Tuesday’s groin strain adds another layer of concern for the Fever’s own season and also her All-Star obligations at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where she is expected to captain Team Clark in the WNBA All-Star Game and also participate in the 3-Point Contest.
However, the Fever announced just hours ahead of their Wednesday night matchup on July 16 against the New York Liberty that Clark would be sidelined due to her injury, putting all of that in doubt.
“Status Update for tonight’s game against New York: Caitlin Clark – Out (right groin),” Indiana posted to X.com, meaning she will miss the final contest before the All-Star break.
That marks her tenth missed game this season. With Indiana clinging to a playoff position at 12-10, the timing could not be worse.
The Fever will resume play after the break on July 22 with another road game against the Liberty, giving Clark six days to potentially recover.
But whether she will be ready to participate in the high-profile All-Star events or suit up for the Fever’s next regular-season game remains uncertain.
