Caitlin Clark spent Wednesday far from the basketball court, teaming up with former world No. 1 golfer Nelly Korda at The Annika Pro Am.

The pairing drew plenty of interest from fans eager to see two elite athletes from different sports share a round together. What no one expected, however, was a lighthearted debate about their NFL loyalties that quickly became one of the day’s most talked about moments.

During their walk between shots, Clark asked Korda whether she followed football, assuming the Florida native might root for one of the state’s teams. Instead, Korda revealed an allegiance that stunned the Indiana Fever star.

“Are you a football fan?” Clark asked, with Korda replying that she’s a Packer fan.

“Not the Packers,” the Fever star said before being asked which team she supports.

“A Chiefs fan. I’m a huge Chiefs fan,” Clark noted.

Clark‘s reaction was instant and dramatic, a mixture of disbelief and joking horror at the idea of sharing a fairway with someone who supports one of Kansas City’s longtime NFC rivals. For Clark, the Chiefs have never been a casual fandom. They’re woven deeply into her childhood, her family and her identity as a sports fan.

The two-time WNBA All Star has long been open about her Kansas City roots. She has attended numerous Chiefs games, often spotted in red and gold while cheering from the stands. Her connection to the franchise dates back to her earliest memories, something she highlighted during her 2023 appearance on the “Manningcast.”

“I’ve been a Chiefs fan since I was a young girl. My brother was a Chiefs fan, my dad was a Chiefs fan. I had cousins in Kansas City that were Chiefs fans,” Clark said. “Honestly it was just something all I knew. In our basement, we had a Chiefs vending machine. We had those toy helmets that were Chiefs that you could run around in the yard and I could knock helmets with my brothers.”

That lifelong love of the Chiefs has made Clark a familiar figure at Arrowhead Stadium. Last season, she appeared on “New Heights,” the wildly popular podcast hosted by star tight end Travis Kelce and his brother Jason. During the Jan. 2 episode, she once again spoke proudly about her dedication to the franchise, sharing stories from her childhood and her admiration for the team’s culture.

Korda, for her part, laughed off Clark‘s dramatic reaction. While she grew up in Florida, her family’s ties and personal preferences led her to the Green Bay Packers, a choice she admits usually surprises people. The exchange became a charming snapshot of two competitors bonding over the universal language of sports fandom, even if their loyalties diverge.

A crossover moment that showcased both athletes’ personalities

The brief back and forth offered fans a glimpse into Clark‘s humor and passion, traits that have helped make her one of the most charismatic figures in women’s sports. It also highlighted Korda‘s easygoing nature, showing how quickly she connects with athletes outside the golf world.

Their chemistry throughout the round made the pairing one of the highlights of The Annika Pro Am, blending relaxed banter with genuine admiration for each other’s accomplishments.

Even if they disagree on the green and gold of Green Bay versus the red and gold of Kansas City, their lighthearted debate only added to the fun of the day.
