Caitlin Clark revealed her true feelings about golf after competing in THE ANNIKA pro-am in November, showing that success in the sport demands discipline and is never automatic, even for elite athletes.
The Indiana Fever guard missed most of the 2025 WNBA season due to a groin injury that restricted her to just 13 games before Indiana ruled her out in September. She has since been focused on rehabilitation.
Clark has been working behind the scenes to get her body ready, aiming for a full return in May 2026.
The pro-am allowed her to participate in a competitive, yet controlled, environment while remaining mindful of her recovery.
For the second straight year, Clark joined the pre-tournament pro-am at Pelican Golf Club, an event preceding THE ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge.
She was accompanied by teammates Sophie Cunningham and Lexie Hull as special caddies.
Clark shared her experience on Instagram, posting photos with the caption, “went golfing with my friends”, showcasing both the camaraderie and competitive spirit she brought to the outing.
She paired with other notable players, including top professional Nelly Korda and LPGA legend Annika Sorenstam, giving her a chance to engage with the sport in a high-profile yet supportive environment.
“It’s always cool when you see the amount of people that come out and want to support,” Clark said. “Not only myself, but just women’s sports in general.
“We’re in a very exciting time where all sports across the board are seeing more and more viewership and more people buying tickets, more people buying merchandise, whatever it is. That’s a really exciting thing.
“I’ve always been a fan of women’s sports, whether it’s basketball, but honestly more so other sports because I grew up playing all of them. So I think that’s just a really special thing that even though this isn’t my main sport, I’m not that great at it, people still love the opportunity to be out here and support you.
“They get to know all these other golfers as well and they continue to follow them. They come and stay for the weekend, and they support these women. I think that’s just a really cool and special thing. It’s not anything you ever take for granted.”
Clark mocked by Lexie Hull online
Clark, who averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 8.8 assists, 1.6 steals, and 2.2 triples in 2025, is expected to make a full recovery from her injury in the previous WNBA campaign.
And that will be key for the team as she is one of only three players under contract with the Fever for 2026, alongside Aliyah Boston and Makayla Timpson.
But the 23-year-old while might be a sharpshooter on the court, but her golf skills remain developing as her ex-Fever teammate, Lexie Hull, captured a mis-hit on TikTok.
“The one time you video me, you can’t make it up,” Clark joked whilst Lexie posted a caption reading, “The masters is next @Caitlin Clark @S O P H I E [Cunningham] & I can caddie.”
While golf is a developing skill for Clark, the event reinforced her philosophy that success requires work and focus.
Even for elite athletes, she views each competition as a challenge and understands that excellence “is never a given.”
