Caitlin Clark couldn’t resist having a bit of fun at her former Iowa teammate Kate Martin‘s expense after her latest commercial for Samsung went viral, as the Indiana Fever star jokingly says she’ll sign up to the Galaxy.

The advertisement sees Martin endorses the popular smartphone and comes with a bold message as part of the new campaign for the company worth an incredible $268.21 billion dollars, which seems to have left Clark unconvinced.

“This is a new league for a new player,” Martin says in the commercial. “We don’t just wear the jersey, we own them. We create new legacies, set new trends, push new boundaries, I am Team Galaxy.”

“Send me the new number then,” Clark jokingly wrote, referencing Martin’s apparent shift to the brand with her with her signature wit via social media.

The playful interaction didn’t stop there. Former coach Raina Harmon also chimed in by poking fun at Martin for supposedly having two phones; but the ex-Iowa Hawkeye, however, was quick to stress she has just the one cell phone.

Martin helps Fever make offseason moves

Despite no longer playing together at Iowa, the bond between Clark and Martin remains strong after four seasons together and their friendship has persisted as both athletes have gone on to have successful careers in professional basketball.

Kate Martin began her rookie WNBA season with the Las Vegas Aces before being selected by the Golden State Valkyries in the expansion draft. During her time with the Aces, she became a fan favorite, known for her energy on and off the court.

Her connections within the Aces organization may have played a part in Caitlin Clark‘s role in the Indiana Fever‘s big offseason moves as the organization pushes on with their quest for a first WNBA title since 2012.

This past offseason, the Fever added several key players, including DeWanna Bonner, Natasha Howard, and Sophie Cunningham. However, the team lacked a backup point guard, which led them to sign Aces veteran Sydney Colson on a one-year $90,000 deal.

The move surprised many, as the Aces were expected to retain Colson and according to reports, her decision to head for new pastures was influenced in part by Clark, who wanted her to join the Fever this season.

“She [Colson] said she heard some good things about Caitlin Clark from her Aces teammate Kate Martin as well,” Emily Proud told AU. “So that made the decision easy.”
