Colin Clark shared a difficult moment with his followers on Sunday when he posted a collection of photos with his golden retriever on Instagram, letting people know that his longtime companion had passed away.
The post drew immediate reactions from people close to him, including Indiana Fever players Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham. Both stepped in with messages meant to offer some comfort as Colin processed the loss.
His caption read, “So long, my friend”, paired with a series of images that traced years of memories. Caitlin replied soon after with “Love you both”, while Cunningham added, “The absolute worst hang in there!”
One of the photos that stood out showed Colin as a young kid, sitting beside the retriever and hugging the dog while facing the camera.
The picture carried the familiar charm of an old family photo, one that clearly resonated with Caitlin. Under the slide she wrote, “Second photo is my fav of u two,” pointing to the bond captured in that early moment.

A season of physical setbacks and emotional moments for Caitlin Clark
The loss came during what had already been an exhausting stretch for Caitlin Clark. Her season never settled into a rhythm, mostly because she spent more time recovering than she did on the floor.
Her first major setback came on May 24 during a 90-88 loss to the NY Liberty, when she suffered a quadriceps injury that forced her to miss five games. She returned in June, but stability never followed.
Her season ended on July 15 in an 85-77 win over the Connecticut Sun, a game that turned chippy and ultimately left her with a groin injury.
Medical evaluations brought no immediate answers, and she was labeled out indefinitely. Fans kept waiting for a sign she might return for the playoffs, but the hope faded in early September.
On September 5, Clark announced through an emotional Instagram post that she was shutting down for the remainder of the season.
