Caitlin Clark may have been sidelined by injury for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game, but that didn’t stop her from making her voice heard – or from showing exactly how invested she was as a captain.

The Indiana Fever rookie phenom, mic’d up while coaching Team Clark, took charge from the bench with an energy that reflected her competitive edge. During one sequence, she even designed a play she believed would result in a quick four points.

Clark’s diagrammed play falls short in front of hometown crowd

With her typical court vision on display, Clark laid out her plan in clear terms.

“Alright, Gabby (Williams) you dribble off,” she instructed. “Sabrina‘s (Ionescu) going to come, set you this. You’re going to skip it. AB (Aliyah Boston), you’re going to come clean her up. Where’s Kelsey (Plum)? You’re passing it right to Sabrina for the three.”

Beaming with pride, she added, “I diagrammed this play.”

But things quickly took a turn. As the team attempted to follow her instructions, Sabrina Ionescu got the ball at the 4-point circle – only to miss the shot, the ball bouncing hard off the rim.

Cameras cut to Clark on the sideline, and her reaction was immediate. She booed loudly, threw both thumbs down, and made no effort to hide her frustration.

It was a rare display of disappointment from the usually composed rookie, and one that underlined just how seriously she was taking the captaincy.

Unfortunately for Clark, things didn’t improve. Team Clark was outclassed by Team Collier, falling 151-131 in front of a home crowd at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

While the night may not have ended as she’d hoped, Clark still managed to make an impact – just not in the way anyone expected.
