Caitlin Clark’s commitment to the Indiana Fever is admirable. The Rookie of the Year turned down a million-dollar offer from the Unrivaled League to prepare for the next WNBA season.
It is clear that she wants to be a champion in the next campaign, but she will not be able to do it alone, she will need the support of her team. This time, Caitlin is working off the court as well, and while she puts on her agent’s hat, Clark has a plan.
It’s no secret that WNBA teams are looking to strengthen themselves in the best way possible, looking out for their interests with a very clear goal in mind. The draft is the first step on the road to a new season, but there is one name in particular that Caitlin wants on her team, no matter what.
Caitlin wants this player
That’s right, it’s Kate Martin, they have a fabulous friendship despite playing for different teams.
The collective memory celebrates the Iowa team that reached two consecutive NCAA Finals; Kate was an integral part of that group of Hawkeyes, averaging 13 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in her senior season, a great complement to the extraordinary Caitlin Clark.
After the Aces drafted her into the WNBA, we got to see these two girls go head-to-head in the regular season, where Kate went 4-0. Although Kate only played in two of those games, she made her presence felt, beating Clark by 4 points in their first meeting as rivals. A real clash of the stars.
She definitely wants her on the team
In a conversation with David Eickholt, Caitlin Clark didn’t mince words when talking about her friend and wanting to see her defend the Indiana Fever colors:
“I think people are seeing her confidence grow more and more, I’m really happy for her and I hope I can recruit her to the Fever someday, who knows?” “I’ll try to find out, it’s my goal to team up with Kate at some point in my career, we’ll see if it happens, don’t get too excited”.
A few words very lightly, as Caitlin seemed a little unsure that it would happen soon, meaning she did not commit that it would happen this season, yes she will make sure it happens at the right time, but for now she likes the sporting rivalry she has with her:
“We need to have our little fight and our little battle, so maybe we can keep it away from us so we can move on.” That really adds fuel to the fire of a rivalry,” the Indiana player said.
We’ll see what the future holds, but Caitlin‘s words have many excited, but she asks for patience for that to happen. For now, she is happy to have this rivalry that brings a lot of interest to the WNBA.
