Burglary reported at Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s home while Thunder star played NBA game

Police in Nichols Hills, Oklahoma, are investigating a burglary at a home said to belong to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The incident occurred Thursday evening while the reigning NBA MVP was on the court playing against the Washington Wizards.

Officers were called to the property just before 20:00 local time. Local news footage showed police vehicles outside the residence, though officials did not confirm who owned the home or specify what was taken.

“The suspects fled the area prior to police arrival,” authorities said in a statement. “While no arrests have been made, there is no reason to believe the public is in any danger.”

Ongoing wave of athlete burglaries raises concerns

The break-in reflects a growing pattern of burglaries targeting professional athletes across the United States.

Similar crimes have affected stars such as Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Joe Burrow, Luka Doncic, and Evgeni Malkin.

Police say many of these incidents occur when players are away for games, giving thieves an opportunity to break in undetected.

In many cases, burglars have smashed rear windows or back doors to enter the homes, often seeking high-value items like jewelry, watches, or electronics. Law enforcement agencies have urged leagues and teams to help players strengthen home security, especially on travel days.

The NBA previously issued a memo in late 2024 reminding players to stay vigilant. The league’s guidance included installing updated alarm systems with cameras, keeping valuables in safes, removing online real estate listings showing home interiors, and hiring security staff during long absences.

As of Friday, Nichols Hills police had not made any arrests and continued to investigate the incident. Authorities emphasized there is no wider threat to the public while the case remains open.
