The Buffalo Bills have locked in one of their most promising offensive weapons, securing wide receiver Khalil Shakir on a four-year contract extension worth up to $60.2 million.

The deal, which includes $32 million in guaranteed money, ensures that Shakir remains with the team through the 2029 season and solidifies his role as a key target for quarterback Josh Allen.

Shakir, who was drafted in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, has steadily developed into a reliable playmaker for the Bills. His 2024 season was a breakout campaign, leading the team with 821 receiving yards and four touchdowns from 76 receptions on 100 targets.

His contributions were even more critical in the postseason, where he recorded 18 catches for 174 yards, helping Buffalo advance to the AFC Championship Game.

With this extension, the Bills’ front office has made it clear that they see Shakir as an integral piece of the franchise moving forward.

Brandon Beane praises Shakir’s growth and work ethic

Bills General manager Brandon Beane couldn’t hide his excitement about keeping Shakir in Buffalo for the long haul. Speaking about the contract, he emphasized the wideout’s professionalism, work ethic, and impact on the team.

“We’re thrilled,” Beane said on One Bills Live. “It’s not pen to paper yet, but we’re thrilled to come to an agreement. Khalil, what a pro, done everything exactly the right way and he’s one of those guys he doesn’t say much, he just lets his play speak for itself.”

Beane also noted that Shakir is highly respected in the locker room, adding: “I think you’d have a hard time finding someone to say a bad word about Khalil Shakir and what he has brought to our team the last three years and what we’ll count on him to bring for years to come.”

This extension highlights Buffalo’s commitment to rewarding homegrown talent, a strategy that has helped maintain the team’s consistency as a perennial playoff contender.

What’s next for the Bills’ receiving corps?

With Shakir’s contract settled, the Bills can now focus on bolstering their receiving corps. Currently, the team’s options include veteran Amari Cooper and rookie Keon Coleman, as well as tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox.

However, Buffalo may still be in the market for another top-tier receiver. The team has yet to determine the futures of free agents like Mack Hollins, and some analysts believe the Bills need a true No. 1 receiver to help Allen take the offense to the next level.

The 2025 NFL Draft and free agency will likely play a crucial role in shaping the Bills’ passing attack, but one thing is certain-Shakir is a big part of the team’s long-term vision.

A future built around Shakir and Allen

As the Buffalo Bills prepare for the next season, Khalil Shakir is expected to play an even larger role in the offense. His ability to make contested catches, gain yards after the catch, and step up in crucial moments makes him an essential asset for the team.

With Josh Allen under center and a revamped receiving group, Buffalo will look to build on its 2024 success and make another deep playoff run. If Shakir continues to develop at his current pace, his new contract could turn out to be one of the best investments the Bills have made in recent years.
