Bruno Fernandes continues to establish himself as one of Manchester United‘s leading figures, while his name continues to make its mark in the history of English soccer. Proof of this is his latest honor as the Premier League Player of the Month for March.
With this award, the midfielder has now won his sixth monthly award while playing for the “Red Devils,” confirming the immediate impact he’s had since joining the club in 2020. However, with this award, Bruno has matched the historic record set by a Red Devils star: Cristiano Ronaldo.
Fernandes ties CR7’s record
The 41-year-old star had earned this distinction six times during his time with United. Now, his teammate on the Portuguese national team has matched him. This milestone places Bruno in a very select elite group within the club, sharing the record with one of the greatest legends in world soccer.
Fernandes won the Premier League Player of the Month award after his first month in the competition, in February 2020, but three more followed that same year-in June, November, and December-making him the first player in Premier League history to win the award four times in a single calendar year. In March of last year, he received this award again, adding to his latest honor and his first of 2026.
Thus, the 31-year-old star, who had already surpassed another club legend, Wayne Rooney-who had earned five awards-now has a new opportunity: the all-time record.
Harry Kane, Sergio Agüero, and Mohamed Salah each have seven awards, and considering that Fernandes has a contract running through June 2027, with an option to extend it for another year, there is no doubt he could reach this number if he manages to maintain and even surpass his own performance, as he is in an ideal position to break the record and become the Manchester United player with the most monthly awards in the history of the English league.
Furthermore, his influence extends far beyond individual awards. This season, the Portuguese midfielder has been instrumental in the team’s performance, contributing 16 assists (surpassing David Beckham’s historic record of 15 assists). In this way, Bruno has not only contributed to the Red Devils’ offense but is also just four assists away from tying the all-time record of 20 held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne and becoming the player with the most assists in a single Premier League season.
At a Manchester United side looking to return to the top of European soccer, Bruno Fernandes is not only matching Cristiano Ronaldo-he is now aiming to surpass him and leave his own legacy at Old Trafford.
