Bronny James heads back to South Bay
In the midst of their struggles, the Lakers have assigned rookie guard Bronny James back to the South Bay Lakers, their G League affiliate. Although South Bay has been eliminated from playoff contention with a 13-17 record, they’re looking to close out the season on a high note with Bronny in the mix.
James is returning to the G League shortly after delivering his best NBA performance yet. Against the Bucks, he put up an impressive 17 points, three rebounds, and five assists. He also saw limited minutes against the Bulls, adding two points and an assist in seven minutes of play.
The 55th overall pick in the 2024 draft has shown promise, averaging 20.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game in the G League. While questions remain about his long-term fit with the Lakers, Bronny continues to develop into a potential rotation player for the team.
As Bronny sharpens his game in the G League, the Lakers turn their attention to an important four-game road trip, starting with a matchup against the Orlando Magic. Orlando is battling for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, currently sitting at 33-38.
Meanwhile, the Lakers must fend off the Memphis Grizzlies (43-28), who trail by just half a game, and the Golden State Warriors (41-30), who sit 2.5 games back. The road trip also includes games against the Indiana Pacers, a rematch with the Bulls, and a showdown with the Grizzlies that could have major playoff implications.
