The offseason is supposed to be filled with excitement and hope for MLB teams, but Thursday brought about profound sadness for the Milwaukee Brewers organization and anyone who has listened to a baseball broadcast over the past 50-plus years. Bob Uecker, the legendary play-by-play announcer for the Brewers, passed away at the age of 90.

Uecker was set to turn 91 on January 26 and, by all accounts, was planning to continue working Brewers games in 2025. It would have been his 55th season working for the team in a prominent role. Uecker’s voice became iconic and synonymous with baseball, putting him in the realm of fellow announcers like Vin Scully and others.

Bob Uecker was synonymous with baseball

While no specific cause of death has been given, Uecker was not battling any illnesses. Given that he was considering going back to work in 2025, it’s likely he passed away from natural causes.

Uecker’s incredible career saw him earn several honors, including induction into the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame and the National Radio Hall of Fame. He also received the Ford C. Frick Award by the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Dubbed “Mr. Baseball“, Uecker gained millions of fans due to the humor he infused into his calls. That led to him earning acting roles throughout his career, in both movies and TV shows. He will be missed greatly by every baseball fan.
