The Buffalo Bills fell short of reaching Super Bowl LIX, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. But even after the disappointment, left tackle Dion Dawkins remains convinced that his team would have given the Philadelphia Eagles a tougher challenge than the Chiefs ultimately did.
Kansas City struggled mightily in the Super Bowl, suffering a 40-22 defeat at the hands of the Eagles in New Orleans. While the Chiefs managed to put up points late in the game, Philadelphia controlled the tempo for most of the contest.
The Eagles’ defense overwhelmed Patrick Mahomes, and their offense capitalized on Kansas City’s defensive lapses to build an insurmountable lead.
Watching from the stands at Caesars Superdome, Dawkins couldn’t help but feel that Buffalo would have fared much better.
Dawkins Confident the Bills Would Have Put Up a Better Fight
During a recent appearance on The Pivot Podcast, Dawkins didn’t shy away from sharing his thoughts about the Chiefs’ performance and how his team might have changed the outcome had they made it past Kansas City.
“We would’ve put on a better show in the Super Bowl,” Dawkins said.
“Now, after going to the Super Bowl and seeing it and feeling those emotions, not to say that we would’ve just went in there and beat the Eagles. We would’ve had a chance. We would’ve had a better chance.”
Dawkins’ confidence isn’t surprising. Buffalo have been one of the AFC’s most consistent teams in recent years, regularly making deep playoff runs under head coach Sean McDermott. With Josh Allen leading the offense and a strong defense to back him up, the Bills have remained a legitimate contender.
Despite their success in the regular season, Buffalo has struggled to get past Kansas City in the playoffs. The Chiefs have eliminated the Bills four times in the last five years, each time crushing their Super Bowl aspirations.
