Nothing has gone Bill Belichick‘s way during the 2025 college football season. His debut season in college football has been a disaster, as his North Carolina Tar Heels are one of the worst teams in the ACC. Paired with several violations by him and his staff, his future at UNC is up in the air.

His relationship with Jordon Hudson has brought the 73-year-old happiness, but her presence at UNC’s football facilities even caused some controversy and another headache for Belichick. The legendary football coach hasn’t looked like himself in a long time, but he has finally received some great news this week, and it has nothing to do with UNC or Hudson. Instead, it has to do with his past.

Bill Belichick gets one step closer to Pro Football Hall of Fame

On Tuesday, news broke that 12 coaches had advanced in the selection process for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026. Belichick is one of the 12 and his accolades stick out like a sore thumb even among legendary coaches. Belichick is joined by 11 other coaches from various corners of football.

  • Alex Gibbs
  • Mike Holmgren
  • Chuck Knox
  • Buddy Parker
  • Dan Reeves
  • Marty Schottenheimer
  • George Seifert

The former New England Patriots head coach is expected to be a first ballot Hall of Famer, which would mean he will be part of the 2026 Hall of Fame Class. It’s yet to be determined which player candidates will join those coaches.

It’s a nice breath of fresh air for Belichick, who has been drowning in public criticism during his time at UNC. A trip in time back to his NFL glory days could give him a jolt of energy to finish his college football season.
