In Miami, they were looking for German Berterame, a Rayados striker and a regular call-up for the Mexican national team.
The Argentine-born striker fit the profile of the player Javier Mascherano was looking for to reinforce the attack; a striker with a good goal-scoring ability and the ability to play in a two-striker system when needed, as well as adding options to an attack that often suffered from dependence on its star player, Messi, even more so with the injuries and poor form of Luis Suarez.
Inter Miami reach verbal agreement for the transfer of German Berterame
After a couple of days of intense negotiations, Miami has finally achieved its goal. It is believed that there is a verbal agreement for the transfer of the Mexican striker. The transfer of Berterame would be for a figure close to $15 million.
The idea of losing their star striker with the tournament already underway posed a difficult scenario for Monterrey, however 15 million is not a figure that is easy to turn down.
Atletico Madrid group benefits from Berterame sale
It should be noted that in this transaction the Atletico de Madrid Group would also benefit as it owns a percentage of the player’s card. According to information from various media outlets, 70% of Berterame’s card belongs to Rayados, while the Atletico de Madrid Group (due to the player’s past at Atletico San Luis) owns 30%, so they would keep around 5 million dollars.
Who will replace German Berterame at Rayados?
According to insiders from the Monterrey club, the alternatives to replace Berterame are two: Rafael Navarro, a Brazilian footballer who plays in MLS with Colorado Rapids, and Peter Musa, a striker for FC Dallas. Both strikers have a value close to $7 million.
However, the main option seems to be to trust the forwards already in the squad, to give Anthony Martial a vote of confidence to take on the role of starting striker, with Roberto de la Rosa and youngster Joaquin Moxica as substitutes. It is a risky gamble considering the French striker’s low goal-scoring rate and the Monterrey side’s urgency to win another title.
Berterame will leave Liga MX as one of the best scorers in recent years and his numbers support him: 31 goals with Atletico San Luis, 55 with Rayados, 86 goals in Mexican soccer. In Miami, the objective is clear, they are going for the championship.
