The Philadelphia Eagles have been committed to maintaining a championship-caliber roster and we are not talking only about the players. In their latest move, head coach Nick Sirianni has added former Georgia football quality control coach Montgomery VanGorder to the Eagles’ 2025 coaching staff.

VanGorder, who has been with Georgia since 2019, will join Sirianni’s staff as an offensive assistant, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz. During his tenure at Georgia, VanGorder worked under head coach Kirby Smart and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming one of Smart’s top offensive assistants. He played a pivotal role in the development of quarterbacks Carson Beck, Stetson Bennett, and JT Daniels.

Before transitioning to coaching, VanGorder played college football for four years. He began his career at Notre Dame as a reserve quarterback from 2015 to 2017 before transferring to Youngstown State. As a senior, he threw for 1,929 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions with the Penguins in 2018. After graduating, he joined Smart’s coaching staff.

Making many money moves

In addition to hiring VanGorder, the Eagles have made several key coaching staff changes for the 2025 season. Sirianni had to fill the vacancy at offensive coordinator left by Kellen Moore, who became the New Orleans Saints’ head coach in February.

Sirianni promoted passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo to offensive coordinator and hired Bowling Green head coach Scot Loeffler as the new quarterbacks coach. VanGorder is expected to work closely with Loeffler given his background.

Despite these coaching changes, the Eagles’ core roster remains largely intact for the 2025 season. Star players Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, AJ Brown, and DeVonta Smith will all return as they aim for consecutive championships.

On the defensive side, the team lost Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, and Darius Slay in free agency but managed to replace Sweat with Joshua Uche, who had an impressive 11.5-sack season with the New England Patriots in 2022. With the new additions to the coaching staff and a strong roster, the Eagles are well-positioned to continue their pursuit of championship success in the upcoming season.
