It’s like Groundhog Day, another day and another article in which the virtues of Nikola Jokic‘s game are extolled. But it’s not a whim, it’s just that the Serbian, almost continuously, is willing to go down in history almost in every game.
Against Dallas, in a game the Nuggets won handily, 99-118, largely due to Jamal Murray‘s scoring explosion (45 points), Jokic recorded the 146th triple-double of his career… while making history once again.
With his eighth assist (of a total of 10, plus 10 points and 14 rebounds), Jokic became the fastest player to accumulate 15,000 points, 7,500 rebounds and 5,000 assists in his career in NBA history. The Serbian achieved it in 709 games. The previous record was set by none other than Larry Bird with 799 games. The difference is considerable and undoubtedly confirms the versatility of probably the best player on the planet at the moment. A three-time MVP, he is already the favorite to repeat this year.
Jokic is very close to averaging a triple-double with the best numbers of his career: 31.2 points, 13.2 rebounds and 9.8 assists per night. And he already has his Nuggets in the fight for the top spots in the West.
In the same game in Dallas, the Serbian not only surpassed Bird, but also joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in a privileged club. Jokic became only the second center in NBA history to reach at least 5,000 assists
