Angel Reese’s rise from collegiate champion to WNBA standout has already made her one of the league’s most recognizable figures. Now, the Chicago Sky forward is setting her sights on a new stage.

Reese recently revealed that she landed a cameo role in A House of Dynamite, the newly released apocalyptic political thriller starring Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson.

Though her part was brief, the opportunity marked her first experience in Hollywood and gave her a new perspective on what it takes to work in film.

On a recent episode of her Unapologetically Angel show, Reese shared the details of her cameo during an interview with Grammy-winning rapper and actor Common. The rapper lit up at the news, but Reese admitted that her first taste of acting wasn’t exactly glamorous.

“It was long, and I didn’t like it because it was too long,” Reese said. “The days were long, and it was only one scene, and the day it took the whole day. And I didn’t enjoy that.”

From court to camera: finding her rhythm in a new world

Despite the exhausting schedule, Reese said the experience opened her mind to the idea of pursuing acting more seriously.

“I think I can do acting,” she said, adding that she’s still getting used to what the craft requires.

Her natural instinct, she explained, is to approach the camera the same way she approaches the court.

“I don’t want to read off a script,” Reese said. “Like, I just want to be able to be myself. Just tell me what the… I guess the message you’re trying to get, and then I’ll just go off of what I want to be, you know?”

Common, who has built a successful acting career alongside his music, laughed before offering a little coaching of his own.

“If you going to act, you got to be able to do get the scripts,” he told her. “Like, you got to be able to take some, don’t get me wrong.”

Learning from mentors and preparing for what’s next

Reese later expanded on her acting debut while attending the New York Film Festival premiere of A House of Dynamite on September 28, where she spoke with People magazine. There, she shared her plans to keep developing her skills, starting with hiring a professional acting coach.

“I want to get an acting coach,” Reese said. “I was talking to Common – he’s overseas right now shooting season 2 of Silo – and he was telling me, ‘You got to hire an acting coach.’ So I’m going to hire an acting coach. I model already, so it’s like adding to the résumé. I’m young right now, so I’m going to do it while I’m young.”
