Angel Reese is always online. The WNBA‘s 22-year-old budding superstar has a lot of connections, in and out of basketball, that she has brilliantly used to help her career take off. It helps that she is pretty good at basketball, too — in her rookie season for the Chicago Sky in 2024, Reese averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game, though the year ended prematurely due to a wrist injury.

But Reese has never forgotten her roots, despite her exploding stardom. Someone as savvy as Reese knows where and to whom to give credit — and she had a special message for a former teammate on Monday amid their recent incredible success.

Reese’s heartfelt message for Hailey Van Lith amid TCU success

Reese and guard Hailey Van Lith were teammates at LSU during the 2023/24 season, but Van Lith‘s difficulties adapting to head coach Kim Mulkey‘s system convinced her to transfer to TCU…where she has just won the Big 12 Conference regular season championship.

The Horned Frogs, ranked eighth in the country by AP, defeated Baylor in a narrow 51-48 result on Sunday to clinch the regular season conference title with a 16-2 mark in the Big 12. Reese took to X/Twitter to offer a genuine congratulatory message to Van Lith, remarking on her pride in the guard for turning around her NCAA career.

Van Lith is TCU’s leading scorer this season, averaging 17.6 points per game in addition to a team-best 5.4 assists per contest. In what might be viewed as a delicious slice of karma, Van Lith’s Horned Frogs are currently ranked one spot higher than LSU, which suffered a shock home defeat to unranked Ole Miss in its SEC regular season finale on Sunday.

According to ESPN’s latest projections, TCU could be the #3 seed in the Spokane region of the forthcoming NCAA Tournament, while LSU would be the #2 seed in the region…meaning Van Lith and Mulkey‘s paths could collide once more in the Sweet 16.
