It’s been a busy week for the Chicago Sky‘s Angel Reese. She headed to the Met Gala in New York City on Monday, May 5, celebrated her birthday on Tuesday and also took to the basketball court too. So how is she managing it all?
Known for her love of fashion, it was unlikely she’d have skipped the night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and she didn’t disappoint; stunningly appearing on the red carpet in a smart suit-dress for the Superfine: Tailoring Black Style theme.
However, she then quickly showed off her duality by heading to the Wintrust Arena to take on the Minnesota Lynx in a preseason contest ahead of the upcoming 2025 WNBA season.
“I’m versatile, I can tap into both,” Reese said to Harper’s Bazaar of juggling basketball and fashion, and she proved that’s true as she delivered a competitive performance on minimal sleep.
“I don’t know how I’m doing this. I’m running on vibes. I feel I can coast with four hours of sleep,” Angel, dubbed Chi Barbie, told the Chicago Tribune after landing back in the Windy City at 02:00 local time.
It was a busy schedule and one that saw her turn 23 years old midway through it, which she marked with nine points and eight rebounds in 19 minutes of action as the Sky beat the Lynx 74-69.
A new-look Chicago team, marked by the signatures of Hailey Van Lith, Rebecca Allen and Ariel Atkins, received a stern test against the 2024 runners-up as they aim to improve their .325 record.
Last in the Eastern Conference, they experienced a dismal run to the end of the season and comfortably missed the WNBA Playoffs. Now the ambition is to take a step forwards in the right direction with a first title since 2021.
They will open their campaign against another team looking for championship glory in the form of the Indiana Fever, led by Caitlin Clark. The pair will meet at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on May 17, with tip-off expected from 20:00 ET/17:00 PT.
Reese reflects on Met Gala evolution
The 2024 Met Gala and the 2025 edition offered different tests for the 23-year-old, but both proved to be memorable experiences amid the different themes; which only served to bolster her keen interest in fashion.
For example, she headed to the fashion event last year on the backfoot and needed to get dressed 30,000 feet in the air, something she didn’t have to do this time as she managed to apply her eyeliner and lipstick with her boots on the ground.
She also wore the new classic suit look for the theme, created by Thom Brown, which served as a major switch from last time out when she was spotted in a green dress that made her look far more girly than the commanding boss figure of 2025.
Both outfits, regardless, are making her think about her fashion approaches and how she wants to step it up as she reflects on the impact of the Met Gala on her day-to-day life.
“It was a little more fast-fashion,” Reese added to Harper’s Bazaar. “But now I’m gonna be wearing more high-end pieces.
“Every time I come to New York, I shop at this one store called What Goes Around Comes Around that I really, really love.
“I don’t want to be known for just one thing.”
