Alex Rodriguez, the New York Yankees legend, has once again put his intense romance with actress Cameron Diaz in the spotlight in his new documentary series, offering a retrospective look at a period of his life marked by sporting success and a high-profile relationship.
The former player, known as A-Rod, opened his heart in a recent episode of “Alex vs. A-Rod” as he reflected on the actress, with whom he had an on-and-off relationship between 2009 and 2011, and who left him with very fond memories.
Alex Rodriguez opens up about his romance with Cameron Diaz
“I feel like the World Series came and went. I was basically at the peak of my baseball career,” Rodriguez said, alluding to the Yankees’ 2009 World Series victory.
The romance began to make headlines in the summer of 2010. Rodriguez and Diaz were spotted dining in New York City, accompanied by Kate Winslet. Photos of Diaz leaving the hotel the next morning immediately sparked rumors. In the following months, the couple did not skimp on getaways, where they traveled repeatedly throughout the United States and Mexico.
Diaz publicly confirmed her relationship in an interview with Elle UK, where, despite joking that she lived “pretty much out of a suitcase,” she shared a mature perspective on their bond: “All I want for him is happiness. All he wants is my happiness.“
After finally separating in 2011, A-Rod had words of praise for his ex-partner, calling her “one of the greatest human beings I’ve ever met.”
Alex Rodriguez makes self-criticism as a husband
The memory of Diaz comes shortly after Rodriguez and his ex-wife, Cynthia Scurtis, first candidly addressed the painful regrets of their divorce and A-Rod’s alleged infidelity with pop star Madonna in 2008.
In the documentary, Rodriguez’s ex-wife explained that infidelity was the breaking point, while Rodriguez was quite self-critical of himself.
“In hindsight, I could have been a better husband, I could have been more present, I could have been more loyal, I could have been more empathetic, understanding, whatever you want,” the former player explained.
