Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo made a memorable appearance in Columbia on Sunday to support A’ja Wilson, the former South Carolina women’s basketball icon, as she had her No. 22 jersey retired.

The ceremony, held before South Carolina’s game against Auburn, was a significant moment in Wilson’s career, as her jersey was raised into the rafters of Colonial Life Arena.

Adebayo, who has been with the Miami Heat since 2017, was seen walking into the arena and sitting courtside for the ceremony. As the game began, he sat with Wilson and her family, showing his support. Although the two basketball stars have been the subject of dating rumors, neither has publicly confirmed their relationship.

During the ceremony, Wilson shared a heartfelt thank-you message, including a shoutout that seemed to reference Adebayo.

“What a blessing to have those most special to me courtside today… especially my favorite Olympian from out of town,” she said, a subtle but sweet mention of Adebayo, who is also a two-time Olympic gold medalist.

Adebayo’s heroic performance the previous evening

Adebayo’s dedication to his basketball career was evident just the night before, when he delivered a game-winning shot against the San Antonio Spurs.

With only 0.7 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Adebayo sunk a clutch shot to secure a 30-point, 12-rebound performance in the Heat’s victory. His standout performance came just hours before attending Wilson’s ceremony, showing his ability to balance his on-court success with his personal support for Wilson.

Both Adebayo and Wilson share a significant bond beyond their athletic achievements, as they are both two-time Olympic gold medalists. Their connection was also on display in September when Adebayo received a key to the County of Miami, alongside five other Olympians from the Miami-Dade area, and Wilson attended the event with her family.

While the exact nature of their relationship remains private, Adebayo’s presence at Wilson’s jersey retirement ceremony speaks volumes about their bond. Whether as teammates, friends, or something more, their mutual support and respect for one another continue to shine.
