Since Michael Jordan‘s “The Last Dance” took Netflix by storm in April 2020, attempts to emulate that successful docuseries have been constant. Few NBA stars, however, have managed to capture as much attention as the man considered by many to be the greatest player of all time. Now, the platform is betting on the second season of another documentary series about five current stars of the American league.
As it has done in the past, Netflix is bringing back one of its most impressive sports-themed productions. Its five protagonists are some of the most acclaimed in recent years in the NBA and the viewer will be able to see things that happen away from the courts.
We are talking about ‘The Starting Five’, whose second season will land on Netflix on October 16. This time, the series comes with new faces and, on this occasion, it will be the turn to get to know five other players in depth: Jaylen Brown, Kevin Durant, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Tyrese Haliburton and James Harden.

All of them will review and tell their story throughout the NBA season, from the start of the campaign to the postseason, with the development of the playoffs, which in 2024/25 crowned the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who also ended up winning the MVP trophy as the best player.
It has 10 episodes and will follow the same dynamics as the first season, which starred LeBron James, Anthony Edwards, Jayson Tatum, Jimmy Butler and Domantas Sabonis. Thus, Netflix will try to win over the audience again, which is increasingly willing to receive series and movies about their favorite sports stars and learn about their stories of overcoming adversity.
