One of the biggest sagas of the offseason has come to an end with Aaron Rodgers signing a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The situation between the quarterback and the team dragged on for a while, even becoming frustrating, but fortunately for Mike Tomlin’s team, they will now be led by a future Hall of Famer.
Despite heavy criticism he received with the New York Jets, Aaron Rodgers didn’t have a bad individual season at 41 years old. The quarterback threw 28 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions, and now with the Steelers, he’ll have a key weapon in DK Metcalf, with whom he trained a few months ago.
Even though the Steelers now have a great quarterback for the upcoming season, it’s only temporary, as Pittsburgh will likely be back in the quarterback market in the next free agency period. There will be talent in the Draft and some free agents who might interest the Steelers.
Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson could be options for the Steelers
Although the Pittsburgh Steelers are dreaming of landing a quarterback like Drew Allar or Arch Manning in 2026, that will be very difficult to achieve, mainly because the team is unlikely to end up with a very poor record, which would keep them out of reach of those prospects.
ESPN analyst Brooke Pryor indicated that in 2026, the Steelers could be considering a quarterback from the Colts, such as Daniel Jones, who was linked to the team a few months ago.
“Elite quarterbacks rarely hit free agency, and 2026 is no exception,” she wrote. “Former first-round pick Daniel Jones, who signed a one-year deal with Indianapolis, is currently the best free agent available in the 2026 class. However, other quarterbacks could become available through cuts or trades.”
Daniel Jones will be a free agent next season, but if he has a good year with the Colts, it will be very difficult for him not to stay in Indianapolis. However, Pryor also revealed that they might consider the Colts’ other quarterback, Anthony Richardson.
“Anthony Richardson Sr., the other quarterback in Indianapolis and their 2023 first-round pick, is competing with Jones for the starting job,” she continued. “Whoever finishes second could become available.”
What’s certain is that the Steelers will be active in the next quarterback market. But for now, they can enjoy Aaron Rodgers, who might put them back on the competitive map.
