‘The Judge’ is probably living the sweetest moment of his career, with the Yankees he is considered one of its main figures, however, he still has a way to go to be able to enter the select club of legends of the New York team.

Renowned basketball coach Rick Pitino praised New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge, saying he could be on his way to becoming one of the greatest legends in the team’s history, on par with such historic figures as Babe Ruth or Lou Gehrig.

During an interview on Wednesday night, Pitino expressed his admiration for Judge‘s performance:

I’m not sure Aaron Judge isn’t going to have the kind of legacy that Ruth and Gehrig had. He’s very special. I’m not convinced by the argument about his postseason performance; he will also have great performances there, and I hope it will be this year.

For Pitino, it’s only a matter of time before Judge has an outstanding postseason and silences his detractors who rank him a notch below Babe Ruth or Lou Gehrig.

Pitino’s words, who has spent decades recognizing and developing elite sporting talent, reflect the impact Judge has had on professional baseball. With a batting average of .387 in 222 at-bats, Judge currently leads the league. In addition, with 21 home runs on the season, he is very close to the leaders Shohei Ohtani and Cal Raleigh, players for the Dodgers and Seattle Mariners, both with 23.

How many times has Aaron Judge been an All-Star?

Aaron Judge, a six-time All-Star, two-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) and three-time American League home run leader, has already left his mark on MLB history. His career suggests that he still has much more to offer.

In the same interview, Pitino also spoke about his own future in the sport. At 72 years old, he stated that he has no plans to retire anytime soon:

“As long as you are mentally and physically well, you should do it as much as you can. Training is a blessing, it is the second best thing after playing. I have been blessed with more than 50 years in this profession and I hope to continue as long as I can,” said Pitino.
