Referee Anis Kalajdzic has been accused of shooting dead his ex-girlfriend in the bathroom of a cafe in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The First Division referee was arrested after allegedly ambushing Aldina Jahic as she was on her way to the gym.
The 33-year-old woman managed to take refuge in a cafe and call the police, but before the authorities arrived, Kalajdzic caught up with her and shot her with a pistol.
Anis Kalajdzic, who had already been reported for harassment by previous partners, had acquired and registered the gun just a month earlier, apparently to protect himself from threats he had received as a referee.
Avdo Kalajdzic: “Anis loved that girl, but something terrible happened in his mind and it all ended tragically”
The Bosnian press reports that Anis Kalajdzic, son of former footballer and coach Avdo Kalajdzic, attempted suicide after the alleged shooting, but the gun jammed.
The well-known former international footballer Anis Kalajdzic, the father of the arrested referee, said after learning of the murder committed by his son: “My family and I are devastated by the pain we feel in our hearts and souls. It is indescribably difficult for us. We are so sorry for the innocent and dear girl who lost her life. If I could go back, I would like it to happen to me, and not to that wonderful girl.”
“Anis loved that girl and they had plans for the future, but something terrible happened in his mind and it all ended tragically for both families,” he said.
