As the 2025 NBA offseason begins, the Phoenix Suns find themselves at the center of several compelling storylines-none more significant than the uncertain future of Kevin Durant.

Acquired at the trade deadline a few years ago, Durant was expected to deliver the franchise its first-ever championship. However, that vision has fallen short. After reportedly exploring trade options at this season’s deadline, all signs now suggest that a split between Durant and the Suns is imminent before the new campaign begins.

Another Contender for Kevin Durant?

Given Durant’s elite skill set and continued high-level performance, multiple teams are naturally expected to pursue the future Hall of Famer. Notable franchises such as the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, and Minnesota Timberwolves are all rumored to be in the mix.

Now, a new name may have joined the chase.

According to ESPN’s NBA insider Brian Windhorst, the Toronto Raptors are quietly positioning themselves to make a splash this summer:

“The Raptors are a team starting to make noise around the league in their pursuit of a big fish,” Windhorst said, via Raptors on SI. “There are teams sniffing around to see if they can make a move, and I think Toronto is one of them.

“The word around the league is that Toronto is looking to do something significant. One executive told me yesterday that this could be-just could be-an explosive summer. Toronto is one of those teams that’s ready to jump in.”

Alongside Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, Durant is one of the biggest names potentially available on the trade market. While Antetokounmpo may carry greater trade value, only one team can land him-if he’s moved at all.

The Suns may find themselves waiting on the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes to unfold before finalizing any deal involving Durant. It’s also worth noting that Phoenix has yet to name a new head coach, a factor likely to shape any major roster decisions.
