Bradley University freshman Trevor Fey didn’t expect to be in the spotlight at a basketball game. He certainly didn’t expect to take a shot that would change his life.

At halftime, he was called onto the court for a promotional contest: sink a 94-foot putt across the basketball court, and he’d win a brand-new Mazda. No golf experience? No problem. Fey lined up, took his best shot, and watched as the ball rolled perfectly into the hole.

The crowd went wild.

A straight shot to victory

If you think putting is easy, ask any golfer. Distance control, aim, and surface conditions all play a role. A basketball court, though, is nothing like a golf course-it’s completely flat and fast. The key was hitting the ball straight with the perfect speed.

Fey didn’t overthink it. “The people around me told me not to think about the shot,”he said. “I looked at it after I hit it, and it looked right on, going straight. I just knew it was going in all the way.”

And it did.

The Ultimate Underdog Story

Fey wasn’t even the one who signed up for the contest. “My mom entered me,” he admitted. “She said, ‘Hey, you might win a car, go for it.’ I don’t have a car, so I figured I’d try.”

A few seconds later, he was the proud owner of a new Mazda.

Will Fey take up golf?

Despite proving he’s got a killer putt, Fey hasn’t decided if he’ll hit the golf course anytime soon. “I’ve never golfed in my life,” he said, laughing. “I might have to now.”

For now, he’s just happy to have a new set of wheels.

One thing’s for sure-no one at that basketball game will forget his incredible shot anytime soon.
