A Spanish saying goes that “a known good is better than an unknown bad”. This applies perfectly to the possible move the Mets will make in the coming days during this offseason. Among the deck of free agents they are looking for their pitching staff, one name catches their attention because they know him well, that of Jose Quintana.

He was recently part of the surprising and dynamic Brewers team. He went 11-7 with a 3.96 ERA in 131 2/3 innings pitched for Milwaukee, striking out 89 batters.

The Mets are showing strong interest in left-handed pitcher Jose Quintana, who played for the team in 2023-2024 and could be the third or fourth starter in their rotation

Hector Gomez, an MLB insider, has been following this possible deal closely. There is a desire in the organization to sign good players after the Dodgers beat them to Kyle Tucker. Their fans also hope that quality players will be signed to compete next season.

If the Mets do sign Quintana, he would presumably be the fourth starter in a rotation that includes Peralta, Nolan McLean, David Peterson, Clay Holmes and Sean Manaea.

Jose Quintana’s past with the Mets

He went 10-10 with a 3.75 ERA and 131 strikeouts in 31 games with the Mets. In addition, in the 2023 season, Quintana went 3-6 with a 3.57 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 13 games with the New York franchise.

Mets are not the only ones going for Jose Quintana

In the “low payroll” or “small checkbook” stage of the winter market, the pitcher is one of the most sought-after by teams who wait for the high point of trades with the big stars to pass in order to go in search of not-so-expensive players

Quintana falls into the category of several franchises that have little budget or limited capital for their signings

Other teams that have shown interest in Quintana include the Padres, Rangers, Tigers and Rockies, among others
