LeBron James is one of the most valuable assets any team could have. The 22-year veteran can make the difference between an early exit and a deep playoff run. Still, one of his closest allies believes the Los Angeles Lakers should trade him.
The situation surrounding James and the Lakers is one of the most delicate in the NBA. At 41, the star forward is nearing retirement, but he continues to play at a level many rookies would envy.
The “King’s” offseason was marked by uncertainty. He ultimately exercised his player option to stay another year with the Lakers, but the regular season didn’t get off to the best start.
After missing nearly a month resting due to sciatica, LeBron returned to action with the Lakers. However, amidst the team’s inconsistent performance, Cuffs the Legend, a longtime friend of James, made a radical suggestion.
LeBron no longer has a place on the Lakers
On New Year’s Day, a user on X (formerly Twitter) tagged the sports influencer, asking, “What moves would you make for the Lakers?” The response was emphatic: “Trade LeBron.”
Cuffs began gaining notoriety online about ten years ago with fiery tweets, including an excessive appreciation for James. However, his true breakthrough came when the “King” himself acknowledged him.
Since then, Cuffs has been one of the four-time NBA champion’s biggest fans. That’s why his suggestion caused surprise among fans and media alike. However, what’s most concerning is James’s own silence.
What are LeBron’s immediate plans?
James will become a free agent at the end of this season, and the Lakers can do nothing about it. This, coupled with the player’s silence, has fans growing increasingly anxious.
The statements from James’ agent, Rich Paul, did little to calm the waters. “We understand the difficulty of winning now while preparing for the future,” Paul said when James picked up his player option.
“We do want to evaluate what’s best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career,” the agent said at the time, leaving the door open to any possibility and leaving fans with so many questions.
